The side event is one of the few platforms on the agenda of the 65th session of the IAEA General Conference at which key issues and tasks for promoting the agenda of gender equality and inclusivity will be considered and identified, best practices and opportunities for enhancing the role of women in the context of sustainable development of nuclear energy will be identified.
The session will be attended by representatives of international and Russian organizations and women's communities: IAEA, WNA, OECD NEA, WiN Global, UNIDO, Rosatom State Corporation, etc.
The Association of Women of the nuclear industry will be represented by the Chairman of the International Cooperation Committee of the Foundation, Director of the Center for International Cooperation of the ANO DPO "Rosatom Technical Academy" Alesya Yunikova.
In accordance with the Paris Agreement, one of the measures to effectively combat climate change is the transfer of about 80% of all generating capacity to low-carbon energy sources. In this context, nuclear power is considered as the most stable source of generation among green types of electricity. In order to expand the geography and increase the volume of nuclear generation, including in countries implementing nuclear energy programs, it is necessary to introduce innovative solutions and unleash human resources, including through the involvement of women. This approach, associated with attracting more women to the nuclear industry, has a synergistic effect for at least two of the 17 Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs) – "Low-cost and clean energy" and "Gender equality".
The 65th session of the IAEA General Conference will be held from September 20 to 24 in Vienna, Austria (Vienna International Center), where high-ranking officials and representatives of the IAEA member States will consider a number of strategic issues in a hybrid format.
