Deputy Speaker of the Federation Council of the Russian Federation Galina Karelova stressed that the active participation of women in all spheres of life is an important resource and intellectual potential for the sustainable development of the country. According to the IAEA, the proportion of women in the nuclear sector is 22.4%: "At first glance, there are already many women working in the industry. But with the development of science and technology, new niches appear. Women are most interested in projects aimed at caring for the environment and, as a result, preserving the health of future generations."
During the discussion, Galina Karelova said that for the first time on the sidelines of the Eurasian Women's Forum, which will be held on October 13-15, 2021 in St. Petersburg, an international working group of the Nuclear Energy Agency of the Organization for Economic Cooperation and Development is scheduled to participate in establishing an equal gender ratio among workers in the nuclear field.
Today, there are international trends aimed at increasing the participation of women in the nuclear industry. Many countries of the world set the task of increasing the proportion of women to 40-50%.
Galina Karelova called for changing the situation from childhood, from school, when an attitude to a profession is formed, a task of their choice is set. She also said that Rosatom employs over 260 thousand people at 400 enterprises and organizations, and a large number of jobs there are occupied by women. "We are working with the management of the corporation — it is important for us that they perceive trends for greater involvement of women in the nuclear industry," she said.
During the session of the visiting lounge of the Eurasian Women's Forum, participants of the Association of Women of the Nuclear Industry, the EZHF project "Women in the nuclear Industry: a vector of development", took the initiative to hold an action called "Women in STEM". The campaign will allow you to tell a wide audience about modern women working in various sectors of the economy in technical specialties, to show their role models. The action presented under the hashtag #IminSTEM will help women learn how to talk about their achievements and demonstrate women's potential for the development of technology companies. Alexandra Ryabykh, Head of PR and GR of the Federal State Budgetary Institution "Hydrospetsgeology", co-founder of the Foundation for the Support and Development of Women's Initiatives "Association of Women of the Nuclear Industry" and participant of the program "Woman Leader" of the Management Workshop "Senezh", believes that due to the increasing demand for highly qualified personnel, it is now an important task to attract and train specialists for technical areas – STEM.
Anna Tobolenko, Head of the Department of Operational Efficiency of Mining Assets of JSC "Techsnabexport", Ambassador, Chairman of the committee on career guidance of the Fund for Support and Development of Women's Initiatives "Association of Women of the Nuclear Industry" and a graduate, spoke about the shortage of personnel in STEM professions that relate to natural science disciplines, including engineering, technology and mathematics. the program "Woman leader" of the Management Workshop "Senezh". In her opinion, it is important to pay more attention to the career guidance of children and the popularization of these areas among young people, motivation in choosing future professions.
In turn, Olga Golovikhina, adviser to the Deputy Director General of FSUE NO RAO, Chairman of the Committee for Regional Work of the Fund for Support and Development of Women's Initiatives "Association of Women of the Nuclear Industry" and participant of the educational program "Woman Leader" of the Senezh Management Workshop, believes that women are a source of resources for the Russian economy, which not fully used yet.
Galina Karelova stressed, "A special project - "Women in the nuclear Industry: a vector of development" — is being implemented with the participation of Rosatom State Corporation. Within the framework of the project, a professional industry women's community is working, international cooperation of women in the field of the use of peaceful atom, atomic energy is developing.
