On December 20, the International Council for the Support and Development of Women in Technology and Industry held a presentation of the Women in STEM chapter structure of the White Book. It focuses on the successes, challenges and solutions that help women take their place in science and technology.
White Book: Stories of Women in STEM
Dr. Najoua Kamoun, Emeritus Professor of the Faculty of Science of University of Tunis El Manar, has presented the structure of the «Women in STEM» of the White Book, a publication that will be a source of inspiration for students and professionals. The strategic document will include:
- Stories of successful women in STEM and their challenges
- Statistics and trends in women's participation in science
- Key chapters: from changes over time to country-by-country analysis
Women in STEM in Algeria
Dr. Roguai Sabrina, Associate Professor at Abbes Laghrour University, spoke about the role of women in industry and technology in Algeria. In the country, as in the rest of the world, more and more women are choosing engineering and technical professions, but there are not enough of them in leadership positions.
The main barriers women face are:
- Cultural traditions and gender stereotypes
- Limited support and discrimination
- Difficulties with work-life balance
At the same time, government programs that work to correct the imbalance are becoming more common.
Women in STEM in Tunisia
Faten Boujelbane, Researcher in the National Center of Nuclear Sciences and Technology in Tunisia (CNSTN), President of WiN Tunisia, presented role models of women at her research center, talking about their contributions to science.
Also presenting their case studies were:
• Khadija Bendam, President of WiN Morocco, 1st Vice-president of INSC, Head of Safety and Security Audits at CNESTEN
• Soheir Korraa, Professor at the Egyptian Atomic Energy Authority, President of WiN Africa
• Geni Rina Sunaryo, Head of HIMNI Women’s Capacity
Development Department, Chair of the International Council for the Support and Development of Women in Technology and Industry
In all countries, women face similar challenges but continue to prove that their contributions to science and technology are undeniable. Government programs, professional society initiatives, and role models are helping to break down barriers and inspire the next generation of women in STEM!
