The webinar “Empowering Women in STEM: Women’s Contributions to Nuclear Science in Morocco and Russia, and Overcoming Barriers” was held on February 11, bringing together women leaders from Russia, Morocco, Turkey, Tunisia, Indonesia and Serbia.
The key topics for discussion were: women’s leadership in the nuclear industry and STEM fields, in particular, support for career development of female professionals, namely mentoring, education, development of nuclear medicine and advanced technologies, as well as global cooperation and initiatives on gender equality.
Alexandra Ryabykh, Head of the Rosatom Women's Community, delivered welcoming remarks: “One of the key elements of international cooperation is participation in the International Council for the Support and Development of Women in Industry and Technology, established in 2022. The Council brought together 11 countries and was later joined by 5 more countries, including Belarus and Namibia as observers. Building a global support network is key to the successful development of women in STEM”.
Geni Rina Sunaryo, Head of Women's Capacity Development Department at the Indonesian Nuclear Society (HIMNI), Chairwoman of the International Council for the Support and Development of Women in Technology and Industry (ICWITI), also made welcoming remarks. She spoke about the work on the White Book, noted the progress of ICWITI member countries and emphasized the need for joint efforts for a unified strategy to develop women's leadership in the nuclear industry.
Sharing key outcomes:
• Over 30 international participants;
• Successful cases and strategies that can be scaled internationally;
• Emphasized the importance of supporting girls and women in STEM through educational programs, mentoring and government support;
• Special focus on popularizing science among young professionals and female students.
