The moderator of the session is Kristina Matviishina, head of the group for coordination and analysis of the construction of universal nuclear icebreakers, Deputy Head of the Representative Office of FSUE Atomflot in Moscow, ambassador of the Association of Women of the Nuclear Industry.Lyubov Glebova, First Deputy Chairman of the Committee of the Federation Council of the Federal Assembly of the Russian Federation on Constitutional Legislation and State Construction, addressed the participants of the round table with an introductory speech. Lyubov Nikolaevna noted that to form an interest in such an important and necessary state problem and to gather such a number of experts on one site during the closing period of the year is akin to a feat.
«In our country, the civic activity of women is manifested in all areas of the strategic development of our country. Today's round table is a direct confirmation of that. Where it would be possible to combine such ideas as the Arctic and a woman. This dialogue and women's activity in a completely non-women's theme confirm that women today are the leading force of civic activism and civic communities. She chooses not traditional women's themes for this, all that is very important for the country. In this regard, of course, it should be emphasized that the Arctic agenda and the development of remote territories are certainly starting to occupy one of the key places in state policy today. Because it comes to an understanding that the wealth of our country is more diverse than what many people are used to seeing in our face. We are not only about raw materials, we are about a lot of things in this life that are still hidden for many in different very distant corners of our country. Our women show how talented they are not only in the development of the Arctic, but also in preserving the traditions of small indigenous peoples," notes Lyubov Glebova.
The senator also stressed that it is important to rely on traditions in everything: in culture, lifestyle, in what forms the way of life of our society, which is supported as a valuable experience of centuries-old history.
"Civilly active people pose questions to themselves: what am I doing to solve this problem and how can I convey my ideas to those who are ready to make a decision with me?", — emphasized Lyubov Glebova.
The participants of the round table discussed the role of women and local communities in the sustainable development and preservation of the fragile system of the Arctic region, including in preserving the identity and cultural identity of the indigenous peoples of the north; attracting the attention of women and youth to the implementation of socially significant initiatives in the Arctic region, as well as international projects and cooperation.
The presented reports touched upon such important topics as the social and economic development of the northern territories, cooperation between women and women's organizations on the development of the Arctic region, including the development of international cooperation, attracting young people to work in the North, problems of women's employment, investment and cultural attractiveness of the Arctic zone of Russia, etc.
A large-scale open dialogue took place, which gave a new impetus for further discussion of issues and joint elaboration of issues that arose during the dialogue on the sidelines of upcoming events on the Arctic agenda.
